La créativité de HALL21 permet de proposer à son public une musique définitivement personnelle. Un univers racé et tendu ou l'émotion est omniprésente. ce combo rennais nous distille un rock sombre, élégant et fiévreux aux influences post-punk et 90' (Joy Division, Radiohead, Interpol, Sonic Youth, The Cure...), il apparait comme l'un des plus beaux fleurons de la scène rennaise contemporaine et n'a pas à rougir face à la déferlante actuelle de groupes Anglo-Saxons!

Babel 17, fleuron de la scène Touching Pop aux côtés de Little Nemo et autres Asylum Party, commence ses aventures au lycée en 1983, mais leur premier album ne sortira qu'en 1990 sur Lively Art, "Celeano Fragments" est un ovni de la scène française, il sera suivi en 1991 de "Shades" un second album plein de noirceur et de maturité. Il aura fallu attendre 18 ans pour que le groupe brise le silence avec un nouvel album en 2009 nommé "The Ice Wall". Celui-ci conjugue avec bonheur les sonorités typiquement Babeliennes et une production moderne.

Signés par le célèbre label de Manchester Factory Records en 1980. The Names, basé à Bruxelles a acquis une solide réputation tant en Belgique qu'à l'étranger. Le single "Nightshift" a marqué le début de leur collaboration avec Martin Hannett, le producteur de Joy Division, avec qui le groupe a enregistré leur album "Swimming" et 2 singles "Calcutta" et "The Astronaut".
"Spectactors Of Life", leur premier single est sorti en 1979. Sur Factory Records et plus tard les Disques du Crépuscule.
En 2009, Le groupe signe chez Str8line Records et un nouvel album nommé "Monsters Next Door" sortira en Avril de cette même année. The Names est aussi un énorme groupe de scène à ne pas manquer !

Little Nemo was born in 1983 as the result of the musical encounter between Olivier Champeau and Vincent Legallo in the Paris area. The name stems from Windsor McCay’s comic strip, dating back to the early 20th century and telling the oneiric adventures of a little boy during his sleep. That sets the tone for the many arty references in the group’s history. The duet asserts this psychedelic ascent while quoting Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd as their influence. Their music mixing keyboards (mainly Olivier), a drum machine and guitar/bass by Vincent is influenced by the new wave of The Cure and Joy Division, as well as by the French groups Taxi Girl and Marquis de Sade.

(en) There are several groups called Baroque Bordello. One is a gothic rock band active in the 80s. The other is an early project of Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple, active in the late 70s-early 80s

(fr). La chanteuse Catherine «Weena» Truscelli et le guitariste Alain Frappier fondent Baroque Bordello en 1981, avec le batteur Gilles «Prad» Pradinas et le bassiste Gilles «Pewal» Bourges. Leurs principales influences sont anglo-saxonnes et vont de Patti Smith à Joy Division en passant par The Stranglers dont un des titres leur inspire leur nom. Le premier EP 3 titres de Baroque Bordello, produit par Lol Tolhurst de The Cure, sort en 1984 sur le label Alg Records. Le groupe réalise par la suite deux albums sur le label Garage Records. Un dernier 45 tours enregistré sous le nom de Baroque paraît sur le label Polydor en 1988. Au fil des années plusieurs musiciens ont rejoint Catherine Truscelli et Alain Frappier au sein de Baroque Bordello. Après 1984, la section rythmique est modifiée. Viendront successivement le bassiste Patrick Griffiths, ex-23 Skidoo, le batteur Michael Rushton, futur membre des Innocents, ainsi que Pascale Meunier aux claviers, et enfin, en 1986, Patrick Lambert (ex-Too Much), à la batterie. Eric Trochu (Torri Kami, Arkàn, Ana Ata Kik, ConnectiCat, ERT, Ana Kronic, Lamour, Kakashi, Complot, ...) dit ERT voix plus harmoniseur et délai.

Deux dates fondatrices pour la suite, La Mèche Bleue (club mythique dans les Côtes d'Armor) et les Transmusicales 1983 (troisième concert du groupe).

Après le concert de la Mèche Bleue, Nikolaï ADA (François Possemé, Complot Bronswick, Mars Drive, ...) nous fait rencontrer le label manager de Madrigal Christian Bordarier (aujourd'hui chez Wagram), il nous a proposé d'enregistrer notre premier disque (Sahrah, en "anglais" pour les textes, chant et parole en écriture automatique) qu'à l'écoute de l'enregistrement du concert de la Mèche Bleue .

François Possemé fût producteur artistique sur ce vinyle avec, comme assistant, Yves André Lefeuvre (Bruno Green, Miossec, Santa Cruz, Dahlia, ...) l'enregistrement pris trois jours et le mixage deux, c'était notre première expèrience de studio.

L'accueil du public fût plus qu'encourageant, je reçois encore des mails de France et de Norvège... de "Fans" par mon site perso et nous sommes encore mixé par un DJ à New York aujourd'hui 20 ans après.

Plusieurs concerts importants suivirent Nuits de Traverse (Reims), ..., la Bretagne : Brest avec Tanit, Complot ; Quimper, Quintin, Ploermel, Rennes, Nantes, Evreux, Paris, ..., ...
En 1984-1985, Pascal des A et Pascal Normal, Pascal Bence de son vrai nom (ex-Orchestre Rouge respectivement bassiste et batteur) nous rejoignirent pour la création du spectacle Quartz avec la troupe de danse contemporaine de Gigi Cacciulianu (chorégraphe du théâtre national chorégraphique de Bretagne). Nous avons tourné avec ce spectacle jusqu'en 1986, en France (Marseille, Clermont-Ferrand, Rennes, Aulnoy Aymerie, Ludwigshaffen en salle, Rennes, Villeurbanne en plein air, ...) et en Allemagne.

Des dates en Sicile reportées à 1987 et une semaine au Parc de la Villette à Paris (1986) annulée la veille des spectacles précipita le split du groupe usé (déjà) financièrement et par voie de conséquence fragile psychologiquement.

Un deuxième disque (Dans votre Monde, en Français, 1985) fût enregistré au Chien Jaune à Paris avec Demon Edge et terminé avec une autre personne à Senon la Brétèche, la première collaboration s'étant pour certains membres du groupe mal passée et la deuxième virant à une production plus "varièté" insupportable pour d'autres, le ver était dans le fruit.

Résultat, un rattrapage pas vraiment réussi ni totalement raté qui ne satisfaisait personne.
D'autres membres musicaux vinrent remplacer le départ de Pascal Normal en fin 1985 puis celui de Pascal des A en 1986, Yannick Jorry (saxophoniste ébourifant, les Pires, Decoufflé, ...) et Michel Zinzin (percussioniste talentueux, décédé quelques années plus tard).
Nous tournions sous deux formules, le spectacle Quartz et les concerts dits plus classiques.

Un troisième album était quasiment prêt (en anglais), Madrigal déclina la proposition même si Gilles Martin (producteur artistique renommé était prêt à s'engager sur le projet). Thierry détient encore aujourd'hui des inédits du groupe et peut-être un jour, ressortirons-nous ceux-ci si une demande forte se faisait sentir ?

Drop Dead Festival 2010

DDF is the showcase for the best original old and new post-punk, death disco, mutant wave, and related bands and DJs. We believe in bringing together the most creative and interesting bands regardless of how obscure. Because many of the best independent, weirder and art related bands get no exposure and are not well known, we take this opportunity to bring them together during this one big festival.

One of the main purposes of the Drop Dead festival is also to make a DIY music community. Cooperation and scene unity is the main focus and we welcome all promoters to cooperate and work together during this one big party. We try to invite and work with DJs and promoters from most European countries as well as from America and beyond. Anyone actively working with the underground music scene is welcome to become part of the festival and to showcase what they are doing locally as well as to collaborate with others worldwide.

In addition to a big party, Drop Dead Festival is also a chance to learn something. We take this opportunity to include workshops, art exhibits, network sessions, and movie showings. Not only is this meant to be a celebration of culture, it’s also the biggest gathering of people involved in supporting dark DIY music locally. We want promoters, DJs and anyone else interested to walk away inspired and with new tools to do their projects. If you want to start running shows, start a band, or do your own ‘zine, this festival is a great place to get your start.

(en) In the early 90s, two brothers and few school mates decided to form «A Sordid Poppy»
refering to Siouxsie’s «Poppy Days» and Babel 17 «A Sordid Waste». Their music is always a bit cold but still with some « touching-pop » elements as well as experimental, complex and (then) modern elements. The lyrics are nicely arranged, sometimes surrealistic, sometimes haughty, but
always terribly decadent !

Their influences are easy to identify, as for exemple The Cure, Mecano, And Also The Trees, Minimal Compact and especially Bauhaus. The tracks on this CD are taken from the demo tapes « Dehiscence » and « Red Cloud Sessions » + one unreleased track. Thanks to these tracks, at last, we can discover some more about this Alsatian band, unrecognized in France, but so familiar for the elders that have have known the «Great East» and its small alternative scene.
 

(fr) Début des années 90, avec mon frère Marco et deux de ses copains de lycée, Renaud et Yannick nous fondons ASP. Nous avons la fougue et l'arrogance de notre jeunesse. Nos idoles communes s'appellent Joy Division, Minimal Compact, And Also the Trees, The Cure, Taxi Girl et surtout Bauhaus. 

Nous voulons creuser leur sillon avec sincérité, conviction et peut-être un brin de naïveté. Nous voulons apporter notre pierre brûlante à ce pan fascinant de l'histoire du rock qu'on ne nommait pas encore post-punk. Nous voulons que les choses aillent vite, très vite. "live fast…" 

Pendant l'été 1991, six mois après la formation du groupe, nous enregistrons "Déhiscence" - album auto-produit sorti uniquement en K7 - qui connaît un accueil au delà de nos espérances. Les concerts s'enchaînent, ils sont notre raison d'être. Ils sont souvent intenses, sans concessions, parfois chaotiques. Alexis Boxmann, notre fidèle boîte à rythmes HR16, apporte une certaine stabilité. C'est l'aube des 90's et nous sommes des enfants du punk. Notre club de prédilection est situé en plein cœur de Strasbourg, il s'appelle "L'esclave". Et le public vient… à chaque fois plus nombreux, venant grossir le cercle des amateurs. 

1992, le tout jeune label Red Cloud, alors en recherche d'artistes à développer, nous contacte. Premier contrat. Sous la houlette de Christophe – qui fondera plus tard Y Front – renforcé par l'arrivée de Pascal, enfermés pendant des semaines dans un studio situé dans une ancienne mine de potasse près de Mulhouse, nous perdons le contact avec la réalité, l'atmosphère est chargée, proche de la folie. Le 1er octobre c'est le concert avec And Also the trees. 

1993, 1er mai. Fête du travail, la radio annonce le suicide de Pierre Bérégovoy. C'est la fin d'une époque. Après le concert avec "Nuit d'Octobre" à Lons-le-Saunier, une violente dispute m'oppose à Yannick. Beaucoup d'alcool et d'amertume. A Sordid Poppy vient lui aussi de se suicider. Les enregistrements réalisés au studio Red Cloud ne verront pas la lumière. 

1994, Marco et moi tentons désespérément de maintenir A SORDID POPPY sous assistance respiratoire. Mais sans Yannick et Renaud les choses sont différentes, la saveur originelle n'est plus. Quelques concerts, désertés par les fans de la première heure. Puis "Poussières", un mauvais maxi cd desservi par un enregistrement bâclé ne suffiront pas. A Sordid Poppy meurt pendant l'été 95. 

2008, Lorsque "Brouillard définitif" m'a contacté pour me faire part de son désir de publier ce disque, je n'avais pas ré-écouté les enregistrements de A Sordid Poppy depuis plus de 10 ans. J'étais à la fois ému et inquiet à l'idée de devoir me replonger dans une tranche si importante de mon passé musical, de ma vie aussi. Tel celui qui, après de longues années, retrouve son premier grand amour, j'éprouvais un sentiment confus fait d'exaltation et de craintes. Mais l'édifice se tient encore debout. A SORDID POPPY aura été ma première histoire d'amour. Une belle histoire. Une belle histoire qui finit mal mais qui, encore aujourd'hui, me hante et continue de nourrir le travail musical que je poursuis avec TORSO.

3 years already after the release of «Angoisses et divertissement», the album which rang the coming back of Guerre Froide on players and stages, we’re happy to present you, in collaboration with Guerre Froide’s label Flashbacks Futurs, their second album, issued on CD and vinyl record. « Abrutir les masses » is definitely orientated into the future, still dark but featured of many more rich sounds. Between the tracks «Hypnose» and «Canal historique», the band attracts us in their personal universe. Well approched lyrics, mindblowing music, attractive refrains, inspired by the society in derivation such as the track « Des Illusions » shows it. Even «Identité variable» or also «Le fil» does explains that. Sometimes the ambiance is more close-friend as on « L'expérience », a kind of strange variation of a certain « Espérance »...  

We found on this opus somemany tracks already played live, or unreleased till now such as «Sauvage» and  «Abrutir», or which are present on the mCD released some months ago with the tracks «Nom» and «Entre nous», here provided on the new album with a different mixing.

Guerre Froide pulls us toward to some new unexpected musical horizons, with various inspirations. 10 tracks showing us that the band still have many things to tell us…

(en) Aus Decline were born in september 1981. They got press attention for the first time during 1982 with a self-produced Demo Tape that made Alberto Campo, one the main reviewer of Rockerilla magazine at that time, write about the band “to be watched, they hide precious secrets”. The following year Aus Decline recorded a track (Five Years Life) included by Lisfrank in the “First Relation” compilation. The LP received enthusiastic reviews on music magazines and good commercial success. It became a very “hard to find” vinyl record and today has high quotations on international Records Fairs. During 83 and 84 Aus Decline had also an intense live activity and the played gigs in some of the main italian cities. At the end of 1984 Aus Decline split, and 20 years after this short but very intense experience is brought on a strictly limited edition CD: the result is Retrospettiva, with all the studio recorded tracks and a selection of live recordings from 83-84 gigs.

1985 : Birth of the band in Strasbourg, and about ten gigs. Anechoic Chamber is at this moment ran by three members (guitar + vocals , synth , bass and drum machine).

1986 : Release of a 6 songs tape "Anechoic Chamber". 500 issues selt.

30 gigs (Nancy , Brest , Rennes , Nantes , ...) the band becomes bio .

(ru) в багаже есть данная Some Other Bivouacs In Some Other Wild Regions EP, сплит с Pseudo Code и Waving Ondulata (в другой теме выложу и привязку сделаю, чтоб не потерялись), а также совсем недавно изданый "мастеринг", так сказать, собраный и склееный с любовью, по маленьким кусочкам из "того, что было" и того что удалось раздобыть со всяких радиосессий 80-х - VPRO RadioNome LP. по характеру - воздушный, атмосферный, прохладный, обволакивающий минимал-вейв. наслаждайтесь. рекомендую запастись кофем, сигаретами, пивом и вообще всем что способствует процессу релаксации.
кстати. если здесь есть те кто тэгирует альбомы через дискогс, то не хватает двух последних композиций. в ближайшее время доложу в комментариях.
под катом клип на самую известную их песню rise up helicopter (данная версия будет доступна в сплите о котором я говорила выше). видеоряд особого романтизма не прибавляет, имхо, но уж какой есть.


(en) Kaa Antilope from Belgium is possibly one of the better kept secrets from the 1980's. Known to few people but loved by those. The reason is simple... this band was unique with their wonderful neo romantic, playful and melancholy sound. Their songs are best described as experimental synthpop with a poetic touch. Only one 7" record was released in 1982. Even today their music stands out with its very special sound of its own. There has not been a single other band since the 1980's that can be compared to Kaa Antilope. (c)

(fr) Kaa Antilope de Belgique est sans doute l'un des secrets les mieux gardés des années 80. Connu de peu mais adulé par ceux-ci. La raison en est simple... Un groupe unique avec un son néo-romantique, aux accentuations mélancoliques. Leurs morceaux se décriraient comme de la synth-pop experimentale avec une touche de poésie. Seul un 7" fut édité en 1982. Aujourd'hui encore leur musique sort du lot avec leur son bien à eux. Il n'y a jamais eu aucun groupe dans les 80's comparable à Kaa Antilope.

The session has been tranfered from the original tape and is edited and re-mastered to make it available for the ultimate listening pleasure the songs ask for. The liner notes have been written by a close companion of the musicians / member of Pseudo Code.

La session live studio a été enregistrée dans le cadre de l'emission légendaire RadioNomediffusée sur la station VPRO au début des année 80. Nattsol: Расскажи мне, как вы начали. Вы были «на волне», или же шли независимо?

Christophe: Подобно любой молодежи, слушающей музыку, у нас были любимые группы. Это были Joy Division, DAF, The Cure, The Talking Heads, Tuxedo Moon... В то время мы жили в Creil на севере Парижа, и музыку, которую мы слушали, не крутили по радио (это было прямо перед рождением свободных независимых радиоканалов во Франции). И мы, естественно, решили писать ту музыку, которую хотели бы услышать. У нас не было цели принадлежать «волне». Должно быть, это чисто французское, я имею в виду нашу неспособность создавать настоящие сети, в отличие от британцев, например, которым через картель удалось объединить независимые лейблы. Во Франции у каждого есть идиотская мысль, что он достаточно умен, чтоб делать все самостоятельно, и лучше, чем его сосед. Жаль, что не существовало сети для этой сцены 80ых. Даже если сегодня иностранцы говорят о французском cold wave как о движении. Единственное, что существовало во Франции в начале 80ых (и было частично связано с победой левого крыла в 1981), это создание таких неформальных мест, как сквоты, где могли играть многие пост-панк группы, и люди могли посещать их концерты за небольшие деньги. Конечно, так же создавалось множество маленьких независимых лейблов, созданных в начале 80ых, благодаря которым Clair Obscur и другие группы могли существовать. Но опять же, жаль, что эти лейблы никогда не были способны объединиться в подлинную альтернативу массовой культуре.

Among all groups which animated the French Cold Wave and Industrial scene of the 80s, Clair Obscur is certainly one of those which radiated furthest outside the boundaries of France. Several of their records have been published by British labels like All the Madmen (the live The Pilgrim’s Progress, 1986) or Cathexis Recordings (the 12" single Smurf in the Gulag, the same year), and one of their act of glory is to be part of the compilation From Torture To Conscience of the mythical label N.E.R. alongside with Current 93, In The Nursery or Death In June (1984). From Killing Joke to The Nits, from Le Cirque d’Hiver de Paris (1982) to the Wiener Festwochen (1991), the bands with which they played, and the venues and places that they performed are a fantastic testimony to the richness of this group which is so difficult to classify. Founded in Creil in 1981 by Thierry Damerval (bass guitar), Christophe (vocals) et Nicolas Demarthe (guitar), Clair Obscur drew immediately attention with a home made audio tape (re-released on the album Play), a 7" single magnificently designed (Santa Maria) and several 12" singles. From the most tribal cold wave to chamber music, from industrial music to dance music (unless these two are synonymous), their musical approach is eminently atmospheric and embraces a surprising variety of styles, giving birth to iconoclastic scenic transcriptions. By recreating a domestic place on stage or by organizing a fake TV game, Clair Obscur explore universes close to theatre or performance, which can be found in In Out, published in 1988 on V.I.S.A. with the help of France Culture. After the releases of the albums Sans titre, 1992, Rock (1994) and Nulle Aide… (recorded under the name CO2, for "Clair Obscur 2nd Generation", in 1999), the end of the 90s saw the group hibernate. Christophe Demarthe mainly worked on his project Cocoon, an ambitious multimedia work released on Optical Sound. Since March 2004, Clair Obscur has been reactivated by Nicolas and Christophe Demarthe, and their albums Play and In Out (...) re-released by the label Infrastition.

Frustration сформировались в сентябре 2002 из членов «Happy Family» Anteenagers mc, Teckels, Operation S, No Talents, Steve & Jerks, four Slicks, Les Terribles & Warum Joe. Влияние оказали такие пост-панк и колдвэйв группы, как Crisis, Joy Division /Warsaw, Killing Joke, The Fall и др.

Frustration - больше, чем современная группа, ориентированная на восьмидесятые…У группы был ряд концертов в «Nouveau Casino» с 999, в «Boule Noire» с Ausgang. А также с Volt, operation S, Adulte, Motormark, Charles de Goal, Section 25 в разных парижских клубах.

Frustration записали 12'' LP из 4 песен, вышедший на Blind records в сентябре 2004, а CD, дополненный двумя запиясми живого выступления, вышел на Manic Depression records в апреле 2005. Мини-LP «Full of sorrows» вышел на Born Bad records в феврале 2006. Этот LP включал 5 новых песен.
